These Terms & Conditions apply to purchases made from Don Plates through our website. By placing an order with us, you agree to these terms.
1. About Us
Don Plates supplies number plates and related products to customers throughout the United Kingdom.
Trading name: Don Plates
Legal business: ShawByte Labs Limited
Website: don-plates.co.uk
Email: sales@don-plates.co.uk
Business address: 3 Saint Peters Drive, Askern, Doncaster, DN6 0LB
Where applicable, vehicle registration plates intended for road use are manufactured and supplied in accordance with the relevant requirements.
2. Our Products
We manufacture a range of number plates including standard 2D plates, short plates, 3D plates and other custom plate styles.
Products may be available as front plates, rear plates or complete pairs depending on the product selected.
Please read the individual product description carefully before ordering. Certain products or styles may be intended for show or display purposes only and will be clearly described accordingly.
3. Entering Your Registration
It is the customer’s responsibility to provide the correct registration number when placing an order.
Please check the registration carefully before completing your purchase.
We manufacture personalised plates using the information provided with the order. If an incorrect registration is supplied by the customer and the plate has already entered production, we may be unable to change or refund the order.
If Don Plates makes an error and the finished plate does not match the registration or specification ordered, please contact us so that we can put this right.
4. Road Use Number Plates
Road use registration plates are subject to UK legal requirements.
For a road use number plate, we may require appropriate original documents or other documentation permitted by the applicable rules to establish the customer’s identity and entitlement to use the registration.
We will not manufacture or supply a road use registration plate where the required evidence has not been provided or does not satisfy the applicable requirements.
Registered number plate suppliers are legally required to keep prescribed sales records. GOV.UK currently states that suppliers must see original documents proving identity and entitlement, and DVLA guidance requires registered suppliers to retain specified sales records for three years.
5. Show and Display Plates
Products specifically described as show plates, display plates, or not for road use are sold on that basis.
It is the customer’s responsibility not to use a show or display product on a public road where doing so would be unlawful.
The fact that a customer supplies a vehicle registration number does not change a product advertised as a show/display product into a road use number plate.
6. Short Number Plates
Short number plates are manufactured to an appropriate size for the registration and product ordered.
Where a short plate is being supplied for road use, the required character dimensions, spacing, margins and other applicable requirements must still be satisfied.
We will not intentionally manufacture a road use plate using a layout that we consider incompatible with the applicable legal requirements.
7. Personalised and Made To Order Products
Number plates are generally manufactured specifically for the registration and options selected by the customer.
Because these are personalised goods made to a customer’s specification, the normal statutory right to cancel a distance-sale purchase simply because the customer has changed their mind may not apply once the goods fall within the personalised/bespoke exemption. Government guidance specifically identifies genuinely personalised goods as potentially exempt from the normal cancellation right.
This does not affect your statutory rights where goods are faulty, not as described or otherwise fail to meet your legal rights as a consumer.
If you have made a mistake with an order, please contact us as quickly as possible. If manufacture has not started, we will try to accommodate changes or cancellation where reasonably possible.
8. Prices and Payment
All prices are displayed in pounds sterling (£).
The total price payable, including any applicable delivery charges, will be shown before you place your order.
Payment must be successfully authorised before an order is processed.
We reserve the right to correct genuine pricing or listing errors. If an error affects an order that has already been placed, we will contact the customer before proceeding and provide appropriate options.
9. Delivery
Available delivery methods and charges are displayed during checkout.
Estimated delivery times are estimates rather than guaranteed delivery dates unless we have expressly agreed otherwise with you.
We aim to manufacture and dispatch orders as quickly as reasonably possible.
Customers are responsible for providing a complete and accurate delivery address.
Unless another delivery period has been agreed, consumer goods purchased at a distance generally have to be delivered within 30 days.
10. Local Collection
Where local collection is offered, we will let you know when your order is ready.
Please do not travel to collect an order until you have received confirmation that it is ready.
For road-use plates, any outstanding document requirements must be satisfied before the plates can be supplied.
11. Damaged, Faulty or Incorrect Products
Please contact us as soon as reasonably possible if your order arrives damaged, has been manufactured incorrectly or appears to be faulty.
Where appropriate, please provide photographs showing the problem and the packaging in which the goods arrived.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or restricts your statutory rights.
Consumer goods must be as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose, and businesses cannot use their terms to remove those statutory protections.
12. Returns
Because number plates are normally personalised to a particular registration, we cannot generally resell them to another customer.
We therefore do not normally accept change-of-mind returns of personalised products where the statutory personalised-goods exception applies.
This does not apply where you have a statutory right to a remedy, including where goods are faulty, damaged, incorrectly manufactured or not as described.
Please contact us before returning anything so that we can provide the appropriate instructions.
13. Product Appearance
We make reasonable efforts to display our products accurately on our website.
There may be minor differences in appearance caused by screen settings, photography, lighting and normal manufacturing tolerances.
These provisions do not affect your rights where a product materially differs from its description.
14. Fixing and Installation
Where fixing pads, screws or other accessories are supplied, customers are responsible for ensuring that plates are installed appropriately for their vehicle.
Care should be taken when drilling, screwing or otherwise modifying a number plate, as incorrect installation can damage the plate.
Don Plates is not responsible for damage caused by improper installation, drilling, modification, misuse or unreasonable treatment after supply, except where liability cannot lawfully be excluded.
15. Order Refusal and Cancellation
We may refuse or cancel an order where there is a legitimate reason to do so, including where:
- required road-use documentation cannot be provided or verified;
- we reasonably believe fulfilling the order would be unlawful;
- payment has not been successfully authorised;
- a product is unavailable;
- there has been an obvious pricing or technical error; or
- we cannot manufacture the requested specification.
Where we cancel an order after payment and the customer is not at fault, any amount due to be refunded will be returned using the appropriate payment method.
Consumer contract terms must be fair and transparent, and cancellation provisions cannot simply give a trader unrestricted rights while unfairly restricting the customer.
16. Website Information
We make reasonable efforts to ensure that descriptions, prices and other information displayed on our website are accurate.
We may update products, prices, photographs and descriptions from time to time.
Nothing on our website is intended to exclude rights that cannot legally be excluded.
17. Privacy
Personal information is processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
For road-use number plate transactions, certain information must be collected and retained to satisfy our obligations as a registered number plate supplier.
We will only use personal information in accordance with applicable data protection requirements and our Privacy Policy.
18. Complaints and Contact
We want customers to be happy with the products and service they receive from Don Plates.
If there is a problem with an order, please contact us so that we have an opportunity to resolve it.
Email: sales@don-plates.co.uk
Please include your order number and a description of the issue when contacting us about an existing order.
19. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time to reflect changes to our products, business practices or legal requirements.
The terms applicable to an order will be those in effect when the order is placed.
20. Governing Law
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the applicable laws of the United Kingdom.
Nothing in these terms affects any mandatory rights a consumer has under applicable law.
